Every great film earns its opening shot.

Directors, producers, and marketing leads need aerial footage that cuts with the rest of the film — not stock-reel clips and mismatched colour. Hiring a specialist is how you get it.

Footage That Won't Cut

Stock aerial or hobbyist footage rarely matches your film's frame rate, codec, or colour profile. A specialist shoots to a spec that drops straight into your timeline — no conform, no mismatched grade.

Broadcast Compliance

TV, OTT, and theatrical delivery all require specific codecs, bit rates, and legal-level colour. Specialist drone pilots deliver files that pass QC the first time, avoiding the ugly re-export at 2am before the spot airs.

Gimbal Or FPV, Not Both

Smooth cinema moves and breakneck FPV chases need different drone pilots, different drones, and different rigs. Brief it right up front and you'll be matched with drone operators who actually specialise in the look you want.

Even cinematic work needs insurance and permits.

Aerial cinematography is art, but it's also aviation. The best film drone pilots I know spend as much time on flight plans, OA paperwork, and safety briefings as they do on framing the shot.

Every videographer on this network holds a full CAA Operational Authorisation, carries £5M public liability cover as standard, and is comfortable signing off under a production's safety, insurance, and compliance regime.

You get cinema-grade footage, delivered in a spec your edit suite will thank you for — and no production manager losing sleep over paperwork.

Aerial Videography FAQ

Gimbal vs FPV, day-rate vs project, and broadcast delivery formats.

What's the difference between gimbal and FPV aerial?
Gimbal drones (Inspire, Air, Mavic Pro class) fly smooth, classical cinema moves — reveals, fly-overs, establishing shots. FPV (cinewhoops and freestyle) fly fast, close, and acrobatically — chase shots, interior pass-throughs, product launches. Different drone pilots, different rigs. Most commercial briefs pick one; a handful combine both.
Day-rate or project-rate — which is better?
Day-rates suit productions with a defined call-sheet and locked deliverables on the day. Project-rates (inclusive of post) suit marketing briefs where you want a finished edit on a fixed budget. Both models are standard on the network — each quote makes it clear which drone pilot is offering.
Can you deliver in broadcast-ready formats?
Yes. Drone operators shoot and deliver in ProRes 422 HQ / 4444, H.265, and raw formats including CinemaDNG and DJI's D-Log M. Standard deliverables cover UK broadcast QC (1080p or UHD at 25p/50i, EBU R128 audio, Rec.709/BT.2020) plus OTT and social variants. Flag the spec in your brief and drone pilots will conform on set.
What happens if weather stops a shoot day?
Cinema drones fly safely in winds up to roughly 24 mph and light drizzle. If conditions won't deliver the creative brief, drone operators will reschedule to the nearest available date at no additional fee. Production-critical dates can be protected with a small weather-hold clause — standard in most of our quotes.
