Drone environmental survey specialisms

Non-intrusive aerial evidence for ecologists, planners and compliance teams.

Phase 1 Habitat on foot is a 21st-century luxury.

Ecologists, conservation officers, and consultants need defensible baselines fast. Drones don't replace the walk-over — they direct it and document it.

Slow Phase 1 Habitat Walk-Overs

Walking an entire site, hand-drawing parcels onto a basemap, then digitising the result is yesterday's workflow. A drone orthomosaic lets the ecologist classify parcels from the desk and use site time purely for ground-truthing.

Protected Species Disturbance Risk

Putting people into a bat roost, nesting area, or badger sett carries real legal and ethical risk. Thermal drones, flown by licensed drone operators at documented stand-off, deliver the data without the disturbance.

Reactive Pollution Tracking

Pollution plume incidents move. Walking the receiving watercourse with a notebook documents only where you've already been. A drone flight captures the whole affected reach in one dated, defensible pass.

Protected species work demands proper licensing.

Flying near bats, Schedule 1 birds, or badgers without the right licensing is a criminal offence, not a misdemeanour. Good intentions do not cover it.

Every environmental survey on this network is flown by drone operators working under qualified ecologist direction, with Natural England, NatureScot, NRW, or DAERA licensing where the work demands it. Data delivered is CIEEM-aligned and ready for planning submission or enforcement evidence.

The result is a habitat and species dataset that defends the client in planning, helps the ecologist do their job better, and keeps protected species properly protected.

Licensed & CIEEM-Aligned

PDRA01 & £5M Public Liability

Outputs your ecologist already knows how to use.

Our network operators deliver ecology and landscape deliverables ready for planning submission, CIEEM reporting, and enforcement evidence.

UKHab Habitat Maps

Geo-referenced orthomosaics classified to UKHab (or historical Phase 1 / NVC where required), delivered as shapefile or GeoPackage. Drops into the ecologist's existing QGIS workflow without fuss.

Thermal Protected-Species Work

Radiometric thermal flights for roost emergence counts, large-tree cavity surveys, nesting baseline work, and sett identification — always under qualified-ecologist direction and with the right licensing in place.

BNG & Plume Reports

Biodiversity Net Gain baseline and post-implementation orthomosaics, plus rapid-response pollution plume imagery with annotated extent, freeboard, and downstream reach. Ready for regulator, insurer, or tribunal.

We connect you with the specific ecology-aware drone specialists you need, instantly.

01

Describe the Site

Tell us the site, the purpose (UKHab, BNG, species, plume, heritage), and the ecologist or regulator it's for. Takes under two minutes.

02

Compare Specialists

We route your brief to ecology-experienced drone operators in your region. You receive competitive quotes with licensing, sensor, and deliverable format.

03

Fly & Report

Your drone pilot files the airspace permissions, coordinates with your ecologist, and delivers a CIEEM-aligned data pack with habitat map, thermal data, and annotated report.

Habitats mapped, species protected, plumes captured.

See how ecologists, conservation officers, and environmental consultants rely on drone environmental surveys through our network.

"UKHab classification over 40 ha came back in two days. I ground-truthed only the edge cases and signed the habitat map off in a fraction of the usual time. BNG baseline work is genuinely transformed."

R

Rachel V.

Ecologist, Norwich

"A thermal emergence survey at a known roost picked up the count I needed without anyone entering the building. Licensed approach, proper stand-off, and a data pack that went straight into the mitigation licence submission."

E

Euan G.

Conservation Officer, Pitlochry

"A slurry plume reached a SSSI watercourse late on a Friday. The drone pilot flew the reach at first light Saturday. Dated orthomosaic and annotated plume extent were with the EA enforcement officer by midday. Unbeatable evidence."

Environmental Survey FAQ

Technical questions on licensing, CIEEM deliverables, and rapid response.

Do you hold Natural England / NatureScot licensing for protected species?
Network operators undertaking protected-species work do so under the direction of a suitably licensed ecologist — Natural England bat class licences, NatureScot schedule 1 licensing, NRW or DAERA equivalents as applicable. We don't fly near protected species without proper licensing in place.
Does the data support CIEEM-compliant ecology reports?
Yes. Deliverables are timestamped, geo-referenced, and supplied with methodology and weather records so your ecologist can reference them directly in a CIEEM-aligned Preliminary Ecological Appraisal or BNG baseline. The drone output augments rather than replaces the ecologist's expert judgement.
Are thermal drones useful for bat roost or bird nest surveys?
Radiometric thermal payloads are valuable for emergence counts and tree-cavity screening when flown under licensed ecologist direction, at the right time of day, and with a proper stand-off distance. They don't replace traditional acoustic and visual methods; they add a powerful complement.
How quickly can you respond to a pollution incident?
Rapid-response drone operators on the network target 24–48 hours for pollution plume mobilisation subject to airspace clearance and safe flight conditions. Capturing the plume while it is still visible is decisive for EA enforcement, insurer, and downstream-damage work — every hour of delay erodes the evidence.
