DJI Mini 4 Pro vs DJI Mini 4K: which one should you buy?
The names are three characters apart and the drones are not close. One has omnidirectional sensing, a 48-megapixel sensor and slow motion. The other cannot detect a fence post, and its manual says so.

The cheapest folding DJI drone, and it shows in every direction. No sensing, a small sensor and a 720p live view.

The names are misleading, so start here
Mini 4 Pro and Mini 4K sound like two trims of one product. They are not.
The Mini 4 Pro is DJI’s serious sub-250 gram camera drone from 2023, with sensing on every side and a 48-megapixel sensor.
The Mini 4K is the budget model, and the 4K in its name refers to video resolution rather than any relationship to the Mini 4 Pro.
That naming trips people up constantly, and it is worth being clear about before comparing anything.
Both appear in my best drones under 250g guide.
Four things that do not separate them
A short list, because these two have less in common than the names suggest.

Same three-axis gimbal
Tilt, roll and pan on both.

Same UK paperwork
Flyer ID and Operator ID for both.

Same wind rating
Both quoted at 10.7 m/s.

Same top speed
16 m/s in Sport mode on both.

So ignore all 4
And that is genuinely all. The next four things are all one-sided.
Both flight times are laboratory figures. Both also fly on bare propellers, so neither forgives contact the way a caged drone does.
The four differences that actually matter
1. The Mini 4K cannot sense obstacles at all. The Mini 4 Pro sees in every direction
This should settle it for most people, and it is not a close call.
The Mini 4K manual says so outright on page 13: the drone cannot sense obstacles on its route automatically, and the pilot should stay alert and steer around them.
Its only sensors point at the ground, and they exist to help it hover and land. Nothing looks forwards or sideways.
The Mini 4 Pro uses omnidirectional binocular vision, which means paired cameras judging depth in every direction, with a 3D infrared sensor underneath.

Both fly on bare propellers, which compounds it on the Mini 4K. It cannot see the branch coming and there is no cage when it arrives.
That combination is why I would not hand a Mini 4K to a beginner, however attractive the price looks.
Winner — DJI Mini 4 Pro
One drone will slow down for a tree and the other will fly into it. On bare propellers that is the difference between a wobble and a replacement.
In genuinely open space, over an empty field, the Mini 4K’s missing sensors never come up.

The Mini 4 Pro uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor at 48 megapixels behind an f/1.7 lens. The Mini 4K uses a 1/2.3-inch sensor at 12 behind f/2.8.
That is a larger sensor, four times the detail and considerably more light reaching it.

Frame rate is the other half. The Mini 4 Pro records 4K at up to 100 frames a second, so a clip can be slowed right down and stay smooth.
The Mini 4K records 4K at 30 and nothing faster, which is normal-speed footage only.

Light sensitivity follows the same direction, at ISO 6400 normally and 12800 in night mode against the Mini 4K’s 3200.
For overcast British afternoons that is the difference between usable footage and grainy footage.
Winner — DJI Mini 4 Pro
A bigger sensor, four times the stills, a much wider lens, slow motion and four times the ISO headroom. There is no line in this section the Mini 4K wins.
In bright, still conditions on a phone screen, the Mini 4K produces perfectly decent 4K.

Transmission decides how reliable the link is and how clear the picture you frame the shot on looks.
The Mini 4 Pro uses O4, with a quoted 20 km range. The Mini 4K uses OcuSync 2.0, quoted at 10 km.
Neither figure matters directly in the UK, where visual line of sight rules end the flight long before either range does.

The live view is the part you actually notice. The Mini 4K pipes 720p to your phone, so you are composing on a soft picture even though it records in 4K.
Storage compounds it. The Mini 4K has none at all, so a microSD card is compulsory from the first flight rather than optional.
Winner — DJI Mini 4 Pro
A modern transmission system, a sharper picture to frame on and 2 GB of fallback storage. None of it is dramatic on its own, and all of it points the same way.
You still record 4K on the Mini 4K. It is only the framing view that is soft, and in open ground OcuSync 2.0 is perfectly stable.

The one measurable line the Mini 4K wins, and it comes with a caveat.
The Mini 4K is 246 grams and the C0 Mini 4 Pro is 249, so the Mini 4K has four grams of margin under the limit against one.

Neither is comfortable. At these weights a sticker or a heavier third-party propeller genuinely matters, and both manuals warn against adding payload or unapproved parts.
The caveat is documentation. The Mini 4 Pro declares a C0 class mark in its manual, while the Mini 4K declares none, which makes it a legacy drone in the eyes of the rules.
There is a further wrinkle on the Mini 4 Pro. It is sold as two models, C0 at 249 grams and C1 at 342, and they are hard to tell apart in listings.
Winner — DJI Mini 4K
Three extra grams of headroom, which at these weights is a meaningful proportion of the margin. It is the Mini 4K’s only measurable advantage on this page.
The Mini 4 Pro answers with an actual class mark, and under 250 grams the practical UK rules are the same for both anyway.

Mini 4KThe Mini 4 Pro wins three of the four decisively. If the Mini 4K is still tempting on price, it is worth reading it against the Neo 2 and the Flip, both of which cost less than the Mini 4 Pro and both of which can see something.
Two catches worth knowing before you order either one
Neither is a reason to avoid either drone. Both are things I would want to have been told before paying.
The Mini 4 Pro comes in two versions and only one is sub-250 grams
DJI sells the Mini 4 Pro as two models. One carries a C0 class mark at 249 grams; the other carries C1 at 342 grams.
They look identical in listings, and the difference is the battery and configuration you receive.
If staying under 250 grams matters, check the class label on the drone rather than the product title.
The 45-minute Plus battery figure belongs to the heavier of the two, so the number to compare here is 34 minutes.
The Mini 4K needs a card, and both need a charged phone
The Mini 4K has no internal storage whatsoever, so a microSD card is part of the purchase rather than an accessory.
Both ship with a controller that has no screen of its own. Your phone clamps in and becomes the display, so a flat phone is a cancelled flight.
The Mini 4 Pro at least has 2 GB internally, which is enough to rescue a flight where you forgot the card.
Flight time, size and ceiling
Three specifications where the two are closer than the rest of this page suggests.
Flight time is nearly level. The Mini 4 Pro is rated at 34 minutes on its standard battery against the Mini 4K’s 31.
Three minutes is real but small, and both drop substantially once there is wind to push against.
The Mini 4K is the smaller package folded, at 138 by 81 by 58 millimetres against 148 by 94 by 64.
Ceiling and wind rating are effectively identical, at 4000 metres and 10.7 metres per second on both. Neither figure matters in the UK, where you are held to 120 metres.

Both drones need a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. Neither is exempt
You will read all over the internet that drones under 250 grams need no licence. For a camera drone in the UK that is simply wrong, and both of these are camera drones.
Any camera drone between 100 g and 250 g needs both of these before you fly it outdoors. At just under 249 g and 246 g, both sit in that bracket narrowly.
Flyer ID
Proves you know the rules. A free online theory test, valid five years.
Operator ID
Registers you as responsible for the drone. £12.34 a year, and the number must be labelled on the drone.
Neither needs a GVC or an A2 Certificate of Competence for ordinary recreational flying. The Mini 4 Pro carries a C0 class mark in its standard form and is also sold as a heavier C1 model; the Mini 4K carries no class mark at all. Why I pick the DJI Mini 4 Pro over the DJI Mini 4K
The names invite the comparison and the specifications end it quickly.
The Mini 4 Pro sees in every direction, resolves four times the detail, shoots slow motion and gives you a sharp picture to frame on. The Mini 4K does none of those things.
What the Mini 4K offers is a lower price and three extra grams of weight margin. If those decide it for you, fly it somewhere with nothing to hit.

I recommend the DJI Mini 4 Pro over the DJI Mini 4K because it can see obstacles in every direction and the Mini 4K cannot see them at all. It also has four times the stills resolution, proper slow motion and a modern transmission system. The Mini 4K is cheaper and flies a fraction longer, which is the whole of its case. For anybody who intends to keep the drone, the Mini 4 Pro is a different class of thing.
